Christine Harris at Somerset Festival of Literature

Hi Everyone
In March I was lucky to be invited to the Somerset Festival of Literature, hosted by Somerset College on the Gold Coast, Australia. It was humid, crowded and really exciting.
This video is five minutes of highlights from my author talk.

Year 3's Author Drawings of Christine Harris

Sometimes it's a surprise to find out how others see you. At other times, you really recognise yourself. Ever seen a photo that someone took of you and thought, That's not what I look like?

Well, recently, I visited St Martin's school, Mt Gambier, in the South East of South Australia.

When I saw their drawings of me, I thought they were spot on. Even I recognised myself.

Tony Bones Entertainment: Theatre Performance of 'Audrey of the Outback'

Hi readers,

There's so much happening with 'Audrey of the Outback' lately.

Tony Bones Entertainment is making a theatre performance based on Audrey to tour schools later in the year, August - September, in Victoria and New South Wales. There will even be a couple of songs composed and the script is being written now.

The picture, above, is of Tony.

I'll tell you more about the performance as I receive more news. Keep watching this Blog!

bye,

Rinca's Acrostic about Stumpy

Rinca sent me this email:

Dear Christine,

To make something (an acrostic poem) out of STUMPY I did ...

Silly slippery snakes

Trying to get away

Under the big grey stones

Many get under the big grey stones

Playing happily together together

Yesterday it was.

Rinca, this is a really good poem. Well done.

Stumpy's Acrostic Poem

Hi
More exciting news. 'Audrey of the Outback' is shortlisted for the Children's Book Council of Australia's Book of the year: Young Readers.
And 'Audrey Goes to Town' is a Notable Book.

I've been having fun lately with acrostic poems.

Here is a challenge for you: Make an acrostic poem using the name, Stumpy.
An acrostic poem is one where the first letter of each line spells a word. But it has to tell readers something about the person. If I wrote one about the frog in the cartoon it would go like this:

Frisky, fiddley frog
Reaches for a goal
Over, over, over the top
Giggles down the little hole.

It doesn't have to rhyme. Mine just happened that way.

Try writing an acrostic poem about Audrey's friend, Stumpy.

It would look like this ...

T----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
U----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
M---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good luck!
